AC Drilling Equipment

The future of electrical drilling technology

LTI Power Systems provides next generation AC drives, AC motors, as well as all engine and generator controls.  Equipment that is critical to an effective electrical drilling system.

AC drilling systems from LTI Power Systems means more drilling, and less downtime.  That’s because we know AC drilling systems, and we are focused on delivering optimum performance for the driller.

LTI’s AC power system integrates drives, motors, drillers’ instrumentation and controls, and fabricated enclosures. Overall, the LTI AC system offers the best combination of high-performance, reliable components.  In addition, we’ve designed our AC drilling systems to minimize the learning curve often associated with transitioning from DC to AC drive operations.

Why AC drilling systems?

You’ll find that today’s most advanced rigs feature AC drilling systems, primarily because AC is widely recognized as the leading edge in drilling technology.

These “smart” AC systems add to the overall safety of any rig and enable a much higher level of drilling control by providing real-time drillstring position feedback. They also provide more precise positioning for directional drilling requirements.  Because of the high power factor inherent in AC drives, AC drilling rigs deliver improved fuel efficiency. These rigs also feature lower harmonics for long, trouble-free life and reduced maintenance requirements.  AC systems are lighter weight, and have a smaller footprint.  And because so many fewer electrical connections are required and cabling is simplified, they’re vastly easier to set up – an important feature in today’s fast rig set-up environment.

Designed for the demands of today’s drilling environment, AC drilling systems deliver infinite torque control.  These systems also work with an autodrill system to provide more accurate control of weight-on-bit, speed, and rate of penetration. Finally, a much higher level of overall control is possible by drilling with AC gear-driven drawworks engaged.
