AC Electrical Equipment
LeTourneau Power Systems offers OEM AC electrical equipment, including Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and AC motors. LeTourneau Power Systems AC systems deliver better torque control, offering preferred combination of high-performing and reliable components.
OEM AC drives offer greater power density and feature programmable, digital controls that interface with many standard communications protocols. The high power factor of VFD AC drives ensures a high level of fuel efficiency and system reliability.
Variable Frequency AC Drives
OEM AC drives, offered in air-cooled and liquid-cooled, are designed for efficiency, productivity, and reliability. These compact drives are also lighter than similar AC drives. In addition to their compact size and lighter weight, OEM AC drives deliver greater power density. These drives also feature a low-maintenance design and fuel efficiency.
Features of Variable Frequency AC Drives
- Energy-efficient regenerative or dynamic braking options
- Factory load testing for quality assurance
- Fully regenerative active front end for energy efficiency and reduced component wear (optional)
- Easy installation using standard cabling
- No auxiliary brake required for drawworks (drilling application)
TorqForce™ AC Motors
LeTourneau Power Systems OEM AC motors are designed and manufactured to meet the requirements of the most demanding traction application. Available in 400, 550, 1150, and 1500 horsepower models, these traction motors are designed specifically for 480-690 volt operation. To meet varying installation requirements, TorqForce™ AC motors are also available in vertical or horizontal designs.
These motors combine the advanced motor design and materials technology with the highest quality manufacturing and testing procedures which deliver high performance and reliability. Every motor is rigorously tested: surge-comparison winding tests before vacuum pressure impregnation and dip coating followed by post-assembly insulation testing and testing of assembled motors.

(A) AC motors include winding heaters and six slot-embedded resistive thermal devices (RTDs).
(B) The 1150 and 1500 model fits the footprint and shaft height of the GE752 for simplified installations, including retrofits.
(C) Stator laminations are VPI coated after to coil insertion to ensure a tight fit, filled voids, and smoothed edges in the slots, while eliminating the possibility of loosening.
(D) Exclusive insulated bearing housings on the 1150 and 1500 models prevent current transmission through the shaft and premature bearing wear.
(E) A minimal number of turns per phase group reduces voltage drop on the leading turn. Turn-to-turn insulation, a LeTourneau Power Systems exclusive, provides for enhanced insulation.
(F) Two surge rings and a shorting ring provide superior rigidity and minimize flexing of windings in high-torque applications.
(G) Life-extending, enhanced insulation system includes turn-to-turn and phase-to-phase protection, two vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) treatments, plus final treatment with epoxy and heavy-build resin for chemical and corrosion resistance.
(H) Greater copper and iron content provide more thermal mass to withstand the high temperatures of continuous operation without diminishing component life.
(I) High-density windings put more "copper in the slot" to accommodate high-torque applications.
LeTourneau Power Systems BullShaft™ |
  |
LeTourneau Power Systems' 1150 hp and 1500 hp TorqForce AC motors feature a patented BullShaft™ design.
The BullShaft features a larger, more heavy-duty construction than conventional shafts, providing it with the strength
to withstand the torsional forces that lead to shaft failure.
Unlike competitive models, which employ non-standard shafts and components, the BullShaft design uses standard components and hub patterns. As a result, BullShaft equipped LeTourneau Power Systems motors are easily serviced and require no modification for standard AC motor installations.
